First off, the Shadowhunter realm... *chef's kiss*! Being a 14-year-old whose whole life is living in fantasy books, this one totally blew away my expectations! I'm personally a big fan of in-depth world-building, and I think that Cassandra Clare delivered wholeheartedly! The magic system in this book though.....IS EVEN BETTER!!! I loved the way she wrote the magic system where the main character, Clary (human), is learning about the world and the magic system along with us, so she would be just as confused as the reader would be at the start. I just find that this aspect of the book while reading is really helpful to keep the readers engaged and feel like you, the reader, would get lost in the pages of this amazing read! Overall, Cassandra Clare's writing style is so engaging and I absolutely love how it makes you feel like you are really part of the story! In addition to her amazing world-building, magic system, Clare also wrote the characters and the plot absolutely out of this world! She made her characters feel like they were real people with real flaws and I really appreciated that because I think that a lot of authors really struggle with making the characters in their book seem real and relatable! Along with everything else, Cassandra Clare wrote the plot of this book phenomenally! The number of plot twists, however big or small, was such an amazing thing to read and I absolutely loved how in-depth she went about explaining events with the character's dialogue, usually, I would find this quite boring, but she does so well! I also loved how you the reader were from the perspective of Clary Fray because you got to go through the whole discovery of the twists and turns of the Shadowhunter world with someone who is finding all of this out along with you! Personally, this will probably end up being my favorite series of all time because it is so engaging and I absolutely can't wait to see where Clary and the plot take us in the rest of the series!
Synopsis:
